Rank, school, record, classification

1. Clay (0-0, Class 2A)

Notable: The Blue Devils went 13-2 last year and reached the regional finals before falling to Choctaw. They return a solid nucleus for head coach Jared Moses, including QB Teaghan Moses, an All-News4JAX selection last year.

2. White (0-0, Class 2A)

Notable: The reigning Gateway Conference champ will be a force again, with Kyra Jackson back to lead the Commanders on both side of the ball. She had 15 TD passes and had 10 interceptions as a two-way star. Leading receiver Ariel Campbell is also back for White.

3. Fletcher (1-0, Class 3A)

Notable: The Senators went 12-4 last year and return All-News4JAX QB Jasmine Cross (45 TD passes, 2,834 passing yards; 923 rushing yards, 8 TDs). The Senators had big graduation losses at receiver but they’re going to push for a Gateway title and more.

4. Fleming Island (0-0, Class 3A)

Notable: The Golden Eagles have become one of the state’s best teams under head coach Clint Lyons. Their run (10-2 in 2021, 16-2 in 2022, 16-1 in 2023, 15-1 in 2024) is far and away the area’s best over the last four years. The reason Fleming starts outside of the top spot — graduation losses. This may be the season that those finally catch up to the Golden Eagles. They’ve had the two Varsity 4 players of the year (Mykala Maddox and London Jenkins) but the graduations have really taken a bite out of the roster.

5. Paxon (0-0, Class 2A)

Notable: The Golden Eagles are coming off back-to-back 13-4 seasons and have to address a slew of graduation losses, too. They’ll be in the conversation to slug it out with White, Fletcher and Stanton for the Gateway.

6. Bradford (0-0, Class 1A)

Notable: An 8-2 season for the Tornadoes and they’ll be in the mix for a playoff spot again this year.
