Tallahassee, Fla. – Florida State baseball player Alex Lodise is a superstar. It was confirmed once again when Lodise won the Dick Howser Trophy as the national player of the year.

He is the third player in program history to win the coveted trophy (J.D. Drew in 1997 & Buster Posey in 2008), which is voted on by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
The award is named after FSU All-American shortstop and head coach Dick Howser.
Lodise is already a two-time First Team All-American and a finalist for the Golden Spikes award, which recognizes the best amateur player in the country. As well as the Brooks Wallace award, which is presented to the nation’s top shortstop. He completed the season as the ACC Player of the Year and ACC Defensive Player of the Year.
Lodise is one of the most prolific hitters and best defenders in the nation ranking in the top-25 in multiple stat categories.

Throughout the 2025 season, which ended in the Super Regionals against Oregon State, Lodise started in all 58 games at shortstop:

- Part of 34 double plays
- Committed 5 errors
- 216 total fielding chances
According to Seminoles.com, “Lodise is believed to be the first player in major college or professional baseball history to complete the cycle with a walk-off grand slam. The historic performance to beat rival Florida in his hometown of Jacksonville on March 25 was one of seven game-winning hits for Lodise in 2025.”
